“In order to faithfully proclaim the Gospel message, Eudists appreciate the importance of using the various means of social communication lucidly and giving due consideration to the culture which is coming of age due to the media and the development of computer science.” (CJM Practical Rules 27)

As a traveling missionary, St. John Eudes was a major part of the mass-media of his day. Parish missions were the primary vehicle in a wave of new evangelism that swept across 17th century France. They consisted of daily preaching and catechesis, often lasting for several months. St. John Eudes preached over 100 missions in his life, and historical reports say that crowds as large as 40,000 people came to hear him speak.

He also took advantage of the new technology of his day –the printing press– to produce materials to help the average Christian living in the world to grow in holiness. Today we continue his pioneering spirit.

Pillars of Catholicism

In the US, our seminarians have helped to create a program of online catechesis videos, in collaboration with their classmates at John Paul the Great Catholic University. Each “season” consists of 13 half-hour videos that bring access to the rich expertise of university professors to the average Christian living in the world.

Released during the Year of Faith in 2012, Pillars of Catholicism: Season 1 focuses on the fundamentals of Catholic doctrine. 40,000+ viewers watched the series online, and it has been broadcast domestically on Boston Catholic TV, Catholic Life Television in Baton Rouge, and internationally on Shalom World Television.

Set to be released in early 2016, Pillars of Catholicism: The Mass delves into the scriptural and theological depths of our liturgy. Much of the material was based on the newly published book The Mass: The Glory, the Mystery, the Tradition by Cardinal Donald Wuerl and Mike Aquilina, and features presentations by some of the brightest up-and-coming Catholic scripture scholars in the USA.

Outside of the US, the Eudist Province of Minuto de Dios is especially active in evangelization through mass-media production.Minuto_de_Dios_logo
